As you now know, Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India in 1984. She ordered the attacks on the Harmandir Sahib and was killed by her two Sikh bodyguards as revenge for Operation Blue Star on October 31, 1984. This was the starting point of the Sikh massacre.
Rajiv Gandhi is Indira Gandhi’s eldest son and after her assassination he became the Prime Minister of India. He is one of the reasons for this genocide. He had Sajjan Kumar conduct the anti-Sikh riots.
Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale is also another significant person in these events that took place in 1984. He was the leader of Damdami Taksal and had an influence on the Sikh youth. He persuaded many people to follow the Sikh rules and tenets. Bhindranwale and his supporters took over the Gurdwara. He was seen as a Khalistani supporter and was the main target to kill so that the government could take control over the Gurdwara. He was killed on June 6th during the gunfight in Operation Blue Star.
